1. ASME B16.5 Weld Neck Flanges

Weld Neck (WN) Flanges are forged flanges with a tapered hub designed for butt
welding to the pipe.


They are commonly selected for piping systems where pressure, temperature,
mechanical loading and fatigue resistance are important.

For Weld Neck Flanges, the bore should be confirmed according to the connected
pipe size and wall thickness.


2. ASME B16.5 Slip-On Flanges

Slip-On (SO) Flanges are designed to slide over the pipe and are normally
attached by fillet welding.


They are widely used where installation simplicity and cost efficiency are
important.

3. ASME B16.5 Blind Flanges

Blind Flanges (BL) have no center bore and are used to close the end of a pipe,
valve, pressure vessel or other piping component.


They are commonly used for:

Hydrostatic testing

Maintenance access

Future pipeline extensions

Pressure vessel connections


Because a blind flange is exposed to the internal pressure of the closed
system, the correct pressure class, material and thickness are particularly
important.


4. ASME B16.5 Socket Weld Flanges

Socket Weld (SW) Flanges are commonly used for smaller-diameter piping systems
where the pipe is inserted into the flange bore and welded.

5. ASME B16.5 Threaded Flanges

Threaded Flanges, also called Screwed Flanges, have an internal thread that
connects with an externally threaded pipe.


They can be used where welding is undesirable or restricted, depending on the
application and project specification.

Threaded flange selection should consider pipe thread type, pressure class,

6. ASME B16.5 Lap Joint Flanges

Lap Joint Flanges are normally used together with a Stub End.


The flange can rotate around the pipe connection, making bolt-hole alignment
easier during installation.


They are useful for piping systems requiring:



Frequent dismantling

Regular inspection

Maintenance

Easier alignment

Corrosion-resistant wetted components


Lap Joint Flanges are particularly useful when stainless steel or other higher-
cost pipe materials are required while the backing flange can be manufactured
from a more economical material
