High Performance VA VS V Ring Seals for Rotating Equipment
We were recently working with a mid-sized gearbox supplier who had issues with dirt entering their systems, even though they already used oil seals. They'd tried a few fixes — extra dust shields, better housing precision — but none stuck. What solved the problem? A simple VA-style V-ring seal. No housing modification, no rework. Just stretched it onto the shaft, and the issue disappeared.
That's the kind of story we’ve heard more than once. It doesn’t matter if you're working on agricultural machinery, wind turbines, electric motors, or industrial arms. The VA/VS V-ring seal series works across the board — partly because it’s not trying to do too much. Just block out the junk and stay in place.
The Role It Plays — Quiet but Critical
VA/VS V-ring seal small, rubbery, and doesn’t look like much. But once you've had a bearing fail due to fine dust or water ingress, you realize what a tiny lip of rubber can prevent.
The V-ring doesn’t press into the housing. It sits loosely on the shaft — and that’s the beauty of it. As the shaft turns, so does the V-ring, and its flexible lip maintains light contact with the counter face. That contact — soft as it may be — creates an effective seal, especially when speed increases. Centrifugal force starts to sling dirt and moisture away.
In real usage, it’s what you'd call a first line of defense. It won’t hold pressure, and it won’t stop oil if there's a flood inside — but it will make sure the main oil seal doesn’t have to fight off grit or humidity on its own.
VA and VS — Same Concept, Different Strengths
we’ve supplies both VA and VS profiles, depending on where and how you're mounting.
· VA is the classic. Slimmer, works where space is limited, and typically used on cleaner shafts or where loads are moderate.
· VS, on the other hand, is a bit more rugged. Extra thick in the base, so it stays more stable when there's axial movement, vibration, or misalignment.
We’ve seen VS rings used in mining conveyors where shaft conditions weren’t ideal — and yet, the seals held on for months without needing replacement.
It's Not Just About Shape — Material Matters
A customer once asked us, “Do I really need FKM for this?”
Short answer: not always — but sometimes absolutely yes.
Most VA/VS V-rings come in:
· NBR (Nitrile rubber) — Handles oil well, affordable, works in most industrial environments with temps from -40°C to 125°C.
· FKM (Fluoroelastomer) — Tougher, chemical-resistant, and survives in hot or chemically aggressive surroundings (up to 250°C).
We typically recommend NBR for general motors, pumps, and gearboxes. But if you're working in a chemical plant, offshore equipment, or any setup that runs hot, FKM is the safer choice.
Installation — Easier Than You’d Expect
Here’s where the V-ring outshines traditional seals. You don’t need to disassemble the entire shaft assembly. There’s no press-fitting or bore matching.
You just stretch it over the shaft, position it where needed, and the seal takes care of the rest. A drop of lubricant on the lip helps it settle smoothly against the counter face. That’s it.
We’ve done installs in under five minutes. Some plants keep a few dozen on- hand just for emergency replacements — because it’s the kind of part you don’t think about until it’s gone, and then you wish you'd stocked more.
Where VA/VS Rings Show Up (More Often Than You Think)
· Electric motors — Particularly in workshops with fine dust or metal shavings.
· Pump systems — Protecting internal oil chambers from external moisture.
· Gearboxes — Especially on construction or agricultural equipment.
· Wind turbines — Variable speed, exposed locations — the perfect V-ring scenario.
· Robot joints or arms — Compact space, rotating shafts — check.
What Makes DEDE a Reliable Source?
We’ve seen plenty of suppliers over the years, and DEDE stands out for a few reasons:
· Wide coverage — 10,000+ spec variants across seals, rings, gaskets, and more.
· Fast fulfillment — We’ve had urgent VA-type rings shipped same-day.
· Customization — Need a non-standard shaft size or want a hybrid compound? They’ll get it sorted.
· Global presence — Used in 80+ countries, across industries from aerospace to energy.
· Strong credentials — Recognized as a high-tech manufacturer and innovation- driven seal developer.
We don’t just sell seals — we understand sealing. There’s a difference.
V-ring not expensive. It’s not complex. And it doesn’t get in the way. But it protects — effectively. If your machinery has rotating shafts and you’re tired of grit, moisture, or premature oil seal wear, the VA/VS V-ring seal series from DEDE is a smart addition.
