Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC for short) is an important chemical and
building material additive obtained by chemical modification of natural
cellulose, which has a variety of excellent physical and chemical properties
and application characteristics.
The main properties of HPMC are as follows.
Good solubility: HPMC has good solubility and swelling in water, which can be
fully dispersed and dissolved in cement-based, lime-based, gypsum-based and
other cement-based materials, increasing the fluidity and processability of the
materials.
Good viscosity adjustment ability: The viscosity of HPMC can be adjusted
according to different production processes and application requirements, which
can control its fluidity and processability in cement-based materials, and also
improve its crack resistance and durability.
Excellent water retention: HPMC has good water retention and moisture retention
properties, which can slow down the evaporation of water and maintain the water
content of cementitious and other materials, which is conducive to the early
strength development and crack resistance improvement of materials.
Good surface activity and dispersibility: HPMC contains hydroxyl and methyl
groups in its molecules, which have good surface activity and dispersibility
and can effectively disperse and stabilize tiny particles, such as air bubbles
and particle impurities, in cementitious and other materials.
Good biocompatibility: HPMC is a natural cellulose derivative with good
biocompatibility and non-toxicity, which will not cause harm to the environment
and human health.
