Impellers for centrifugal pump
The main types of pump impellers include channel type (single channel, double channel), blade type (closed, open), spiral centrifugal, and vortex type. The flow path impeller features a curved flow channel formed from the inlet to the outlet within the impeller. This design makes the flow path impeller particularly suitable for pumping liquids containing large particulate impurities or long fibers, demonstrating excellent anti-clogging capability. However, in comparison, its anti-cavitation performance is somewhat inferior, falling short of other types of impellers. Impeller with blades The casting process for semi-open and open impellers is relatively simple, and they are easy to maintain and clean to remove blocked impurities. However, their drawback is that during transportation, solid particles gradually increase wear on the inner walls of the volute chamber and the gaps between the blades, thereby reducing the pump's operational efficiency. Additionally, this wear can disrupt the flow stability of the liquid in the passage, causing pump vibration. Therefore, this type of impeller is not suitable for conveying media containing large particles or long fibers. In comparison, closed impellers offer higher operational efficiency and can run smoothly for extended periods, with relatively lower axial thrust. However, it should be noted that closed impellers are prone to clogging, making them unsuitable for pumping sewage media containing large particles or long fibers. Helical/ spiral centrifugal impeller The design feature lies in its twisted blades, which extend from the suction inlet toward the axial direction along the conical hub body. This design ensures that the transported liquid does not collide with any other components inside the pump when flowing through the blades, thereby avoiding potential damage to the pump while maintaining non-destructive handling of the liquid. Thanks to the helical propulsion effect, the impeller exhibits excellent particle suspension capability, making pumps equipped with this type of impeller particularly suitable for pumping media containing large particles and long fibers. Vortex impeller The design feature of the vortex impeller is that its blades are partially or entirely recessed from the flow passage of the volute, endowing it with excellent anti-clogging performance. During the pump's operation, particles are driven by the vortices generated by the impeller's rotation within the water pressure chamber. Notably, the movement of these suspended particles does not generate energy but instead exchanges energy with the liquid in the flow passage. This design ensures that suspended particles or long fibers do not directly contact the blades during flow, significantly reducing blade wear and eliminating issues of clearance enlargement caused by abrasion. Consequently, the vortex impeller is particularly suitable for pumping media containing large particles and long fibers.
