RIBBON DRAPES

Ribbon drapes are the fabric suspensions or mountings used to hold medals,
decorations, or insignia. Instead of being worn directly on a chain, pin,
or clasp, the award is attached to a piece of ribbon that drapes down in a
specific style. These drapes not only secure the medal but also identify
the award through their distinctive colors, stripes, and widths, which are
often codified in military, civil, or fraternal systems.

Key Features of Ribbon Drapes:

Material: Usually made from moiré or high-quality woven silk/polyester
ribbon.

Design: Colors and stripe patterns represent a specific order, campaign, or
society.

Shape: Often cut into a pentagon, triangular, or rectangular drape,
depending on tradition.

Use: Found in military medals, fraternal regalia (like Masonic jewels), and
civil decorations.

Attachment: Typically fixed with a brooch bar or pin on the reverse for
wear on uniforms.
