Socket Weld Flange SW Forged steel Flange

Socket Weld Flanges are ideal for both applications as well as high-pressure
applications. They have the ability to withstand much higher pressures than
other styles of flange, making them suitable for nearly any application
airtight connection between pieces of piping or tubing.

Socket Weld Flange
A socket weld flange, simplified as SW flange, has a recessed area (like a
shoulder) in the flange bore. This shoulder serves as a guide to set the depth
of the pipe that is inserted into the flange. A socket welding flange is
initially designed for a high-pressure, small-diameter piping system.

How to Use
Insert the pipe end into the socket weld flange until the pipe bottom touches
the shoulder area, pull back 1.6mm (1/16”) distance of the inserted pipe, then
do fillet welding. The point is to create an expansion gap (1 fillet weld)
between the flange and the pipes or fittings.

Socket Welded Flange Face Types
Socket welded flange face types, including RF type and RTJ type, are used with
other types of welding flanges (slip on, weld neck, or blind flange).

Advantages
1. Socket weld flange could replace a threaded flange to minimize the risk of
leakage.
2. No need to bevel before welding.
3. Welding work outside of the pipe will not penetrate the pipe bore
4. It offers the same internal pressure capacity as slip-on flanges while
improving fatigue resistance.
