The desulfurization tower is a tower-type equipment for desulfurization
treatment of industrial waste gas. The desulfurization tower was originally
the most widely used granite masonry. It uses the principle of water film
desulfurization and dust removal, also known as granite water film
desulfurization and dust collector, or granite water film desulfurization and
dust collector.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO), according to the sulphur
limit regulations for ships, requires member states to implement MEPC.259(68)
from January 1, 2020, that is, the emission of sulfur oxides in the flue gas
of ships must be less than 0.5%. In response to the new IMO regulations,
ships basically meet emission standards in the following three ways:

1. Adding and using low-sulfur oil
2. Adopt desulfurization tower system (EGC system)
3. Use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) etc. as alternative energy

For the third method, it is generally only applicable to newly built ships or
operating ships with reserved refit positions. At present, the ship industry
generally adopts the first and second methods to deal with the new
regulations.
