Carbon steel (Mainly refers to gcr15 in China) taps can be a good choice for
certain applications, particularly for hand tapping,  threads cleaning, and
repairing, but they may not be ideal for high-volume cutting or tapping on hard
materials . They tend to dull more quickly than high-speed steel (HSS) taps

Pros of Carbon Steel Taps:
Lower Cost: Carbon steel taps are cheaper. 

Good for Hand Tapping: They are suitable for manual threading, especially when
cutting with soft materials like Aluminium, Brass, Plastic etc . 

Effective for threads cleaning and repairing: They can be useful for
rethreading damaged threads or removing burrs.
