Some operators skip re-polishing the surface and just install the new seal, which never ends well. Incorrect installation force: Hitting the seal with a hammer or inserting it unevenly can distort the sealing lip or knock the spring loose. No pre-lubrication: The lip should always have a thin oil film before installation. Without it, the initial run causes frictional heat that burns the rubber.
